Fakhrul said: "Obaidul Quader Saheb has asked BNP to take part in the election to prove strength and popularity. You also come leaving power behind. You come without the help of police. You allow to hold a free, fair and impartial general election under a neutral government. Then you will see how much popularity BNP holds among people."

Dhaka City South BNP organised the road march protesting unprecedented loadshedding, corruption in power sector, price hike of essentials and demanding the next general elections under caretaker government. Starting from the premises of Sadeuque Hossain Khoka Community Centre at Gopibagh, the road march got terminated after reaching Roysaheb Chowrasta crossimng.

Warning the government, Mirza Fakhrul said the next general elections must be held under a neutral government. "Otherwise, you will not get any scope of fleeing. Now, the United States have also closed all the ways for you to flee the country."

Commenting that the country doesn't belong to anyone's father, Fakhrul said, "It's the country of all of you. We have all brough the independence of this country fighting in the War of Liberation. But, we have no right to speak in that country. We have no security."

Fakhrul also condemned the remarks of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) over the attack on a mayoral candidate in Barisal City Corporation election. At the same time, he also questioned the competence of the Election Commission (EC) to hold the next general election.

"Did the EC want that the Barisal mayoral candidate die? We condemn his such a remark. Those who can't hold a local election properly, how would they hold a national election," he asked.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the government had kept confined BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in jail implicating her in false cases. "Now, she has been kept house arrest. The government has sent our leader Tareque Rahman to exile in a very planned way. We have not a single leader who has not been implicated in more than one false cases."

The BNP Secretary General said the Awami League government has been facing a great trouble following the announcement of a new visa policy by the United States. So, they are bringing their money which they had laundered from Bangladesh. They are taking 2.5 per cent incentive on that money. Now, the money launderers are being rewarded.

Referring to the late politician Serajul Alam Khan, Fakhrul said, "Serajul Alam Khan was a key organiser of the War of Liberation. But, this Awami League has not given him any kind of honour following his death. Even this government didn't issue any condolence message, because he fought against them. He stood very firmly against the Rakkhi Bahini formed by the Awami League."

The rally was presided over by Dhaka City South BNP convener Abdus Salam. It was also attended by BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, Sweccha Sebak Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sopu, Shirin Sultana, Muktijoddha Dal's general secretary Sadeque Khan, Krishak Dal's president Hasan Jarif Tuhin and Dhaka District BNP president Khondker Abu Ashfaq.
